A Clinical Evalution of Primary Carcinoma of the Gallbladder

Abstract
Cancer of the gallbladder is a most depressing condition because of the hopeless outlook in the general. Many recent advances in diagnosis and treatment seem to be no help in early detection of gallbladder cancer. 27 cases of primary carcinoma of the gallbladder trea-ted at Dept. of General Surgery, National Medical Center in Seoul for 10 years (from Jan. ¢¥71 to Dec. ¢¥81) has been clinically analyzed and the literature are reviewed. The conclusions are as follows.
1) Sex ratio is 1 to 1. 1 with female predominance mean age of the patients is 56 years.
2) 11 out of 27 cases have been associated with the gallstone. Two has clonorchis sinenis and one has ascaris.
3) The most common symptom is R.U.Q. pain and discomfort in 25 cases (92%), Jaundice has been observed in 12 cases (44%).
4) Alkaline phosphatase level has been increased in 18 cases (69.2%).
5) No specific or characteristic finding of gallbladder cancer is noticed in the cholangio-graphy, even in P.T.C. Therefore more developed or new method to detect the gallbladder cancer is urgently needed.
6) No definite surgical procedure has been applied on patient because of the variable extension of the tumor in each patient.
